By background and training,
Carole is hybrid of the medical and herbal communities. She has
worked as a medical technologist, having received a Bachelor of
Science in Medical Technology (MT) from the University of North
Texas. When she worked in the medical field, she observed many
people who had lab work ordered on a regular basis. She noticed
that they kept getting results that indicated that they were not
being healed from their diseases, disorders and conditions. This
observation made a lasting impression.
In 1979, Carole and her family moved into a home with all-gas
appliances. Her children became very ill and she found that
their problems didn't fit into the usual medical model and she
wanted to see them healthy and happy again. She ended up seeking
an environmentalist for help. At that time, it was not readily
accepted that environmental toxins existed in the home and could
make people sick. In time she learned that a well-insulated, but
improperly-vented house could make someone sick. Their
tightly sealed house also had mold in the vents.
With the experience of restoring her children’s health using
herbs, pure foods, pure water, and cleaning up the environment
in their home, she was drawn into a new profession. She
established her business, Healthful Ways, Inc in 1980, and has
since become a Certified Natural Health Professional (CNHP) and
an Herb Specialist (HS). Her husband, David, an engineer by
professional training, retired in 2000 and offers his expertise
to their business.
Her appreciation for natural remedies and complimentary medicine
deepened through her difficult experiences in 1988. She was paralyzed from a parasailing
accident; hanged by a parachute and left quadriplegic. Her
injury was such that there was nothing medical that could help
her. She could only learn how to live with her paralysis.
With a lot of faith, patience and perseverance, she is walking
unaided and lives a very normal life.
Through all her
experiences with natural medicine, she learned that the personal
pursuit of health brings more success that just putting your
health in the doctor’s hands.
